Book: A Million Miles In A Thousand Years by Donald Miller

The Book in three sentences

To summarise Donald Miller’s book is not an easy feat. It is a message packed into a story of sorts about life and the mistakes most of us do. While editing the story of his life for a movie script Miller learns about the process of telling a story and applies it to his own life.

Impressions

The setup of this book is a new approach (to me) for a book. It starts out as a story but somehow transforms into another story within the first one. That second story is the one I can relate to, even though I am at a later stage in life as the author. It feels a bit as if you were told the story and it was narrated at the same time.

How I discovered it

I added this book on my “to read” list back in 2012. It was stuck there until I read about it on a blog last month. Usually when a book pops up like that more than one I pick it up asap. I believe in signs.

Who should read it

I think this is a book that most people would like. It is a pleasant interesting read about life and why not every moment of our lives can be highlighted, but on the other hand to strive to create said highlights.

How it impacted me

I would say that the book has not finished impacting me or my life. I feel as if this one will have a long-lasting effect on me. After finishing the book I spend a couple of minutes thinking about my last month. I’ve run a couple of dozen call-outs on the ambulance and fire truck, I have started and finished quite a few videos and photo projects and I spend a lot of time doing fun stuff with my kids and family in general. It was a great month, had I not read A Million Miles In A Thousand Years, I would not have done that and thus not have that feeling of joy and pride about the month before.
